Councillors and Communities: The 21st Century Councillor Framework Tested

"The 21st Century Councillor Framework Tested." An opportunity for Councillors, community members, council officers and other stakeholders to discuss governing localities differently - with Jam and Justice and North West Employers. Part of National Co-Production Week.

 About this Event

What was learnt from "Testing The 21st Century Councillor Framework"? What is required to support Councillors, council officers and communities to enable more effective outcomes, to meet current and emerging issues?

This free event is for Councillors, community members, council officers and anyone with an interest in how people can work together to govern localities better.

Background

Councillors commit time to the local community. Most are motivated by a desire to shape what happens where they live. They often belong to a political party too. As budgets decrease, and public expectations remain high, it is not an easy task.

A group of action researchers from Jam & Justice decided to talk with Councillors, the council officers who work with and support Councillors, and other people living in the same area.

They wanted to hear about examples of good practice, and to look for ways in which everyone could work well together.

With North West Employers, Jam & Justice ran focus groups in 4 different Greater Manchester councils - Bury, Manchester, Oldham, and Salford. They used The 21st Century Councillor Framework as a starting point to discuss what people expect Councillors to do.

In this event, delegates will explore what people said and what it might mean for the future of Councillors and communities.
