Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, has announced after a meeting of the Greater Manchester COVID-19 Emergency Committee, an urgent humanitarian response to house 1000 people in hotels and provide them with essential services to help them during the coronavirus crisis with £5m of funding to be used with immediate effect.
Fully 625 hotels rooms have been made available to house the city-region’s rough sleeping population and those in shared hostels to help protect them from the risks posed by coronavirus and allow them to self-isolate. A further 375 hotel rooms are being sourced in the next 48 hours.
